Anyone in higher education (some high school, too) knows that the last few weeks of the semester are the busiest! It seems as though 98% of people are stressed while the other 2% were "smart" enough to get a jump start on studying and preparing papers and presentations. Well, I am in that 98%; I have been in that 98% every single semester, rather every single year, of my academic career. One may wonder why it is that I do this to myself every single time. You would think I would learn... Well, as weird as this may sound, I take some certain comfort out of stressing beyond sanity at the end of every semester. I guess you could say that it's just my thing. I know, I know, weird thing to have, but just let me explain myself a little.

I complain and I complain but somewhere deep inside, I know it will all turn out okay. The best way to put it is that I work best under pressure. (Not to mention that I find it more beneficial to only spend five days stressing versus a whole month!) If I have time to think and re-think my work then it tends to come out a little "overcooked." I have learned from experience; professors don't really appreciate "overcooked" work. Also, that last final frenzy to finish everything is a very clear indicator that the end is near. When you start to see the dark circles under your classmate's eyes, you really know that you are even closer to completing another 15 or so hours. So I'll happily take my place in the library next to the other 98%, and I encourage you to keep in mind that it all works out in the end! Good luck!

Laura Houser

Laura Houser I am a junior Secondary Education-English major here at Newman University. I transferred to Newman Fall 2007 after attending WSU for my first year. Since my first campus visit, Newman has been my home. One of my favorite things about Newman is the friendly atmosphere. During the time that I have spent at Newman, I have developed friendships that will last a lifetime. I look forward to what more I will discover while I complete my degree!
